Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERNEST PAULS Ernest Pauls died January 11, 2007 with his children singing hymns at his bedside. He was born March 2, 1930 to Martin and Agatha Pauls of Arnaud, MB. On June 23, 1951 he married Frieda Schmidt at the Elm Creek MB Church. Following God was at the center of Ernie's life. He loved all of life, especially family, church, work, music and sports. Gatherings of the Pauls and Schmidt families were always a priority to Ernie and Frieda. These events were filled with activity, music, and visiting. For Ernie, work was not just something to do, but a time of enjoyable service. He worked for the Pioneer Grain Company for 43 years. There, he influenced many people with his hard work, love of life, and commitment to the JR Choristers every Christmas. Even though he had a full time job, Dad had time for various jobs after the regular day. These included chicken farming in Niverville, painting, lawn mowing, and beekeeping. Some of this work was done to add income to support a growing family and some of it was done to work with his children and teach them how to work. Ernie and Frieda attended the South End and Portage Avenue MB churches in Winnipeg. Ernie loved to sing and lead others in singing. He sang in the church choir, the male choir and conducted the male and German choirs for many years. All his life he sang with a quartet. He sang for many years in the CBMC quartet and then most recently with in the Town and Country quartet. His love of music was shared with family and friends. Sport was another place that Ernie demonstrated his love of life. Through the years he played hockey, fastball, racquetball, floor hockey, and squash. He loved to compete and did it with grace. Dad was his children's biggest fan. In retirement Ernie and Frieda travelled and volunteered together. They travelled to Akron and Budapest to work for MCC and ACSI. Volunteering included using his accounting skills to help other seniors complete their income tax forms. His wife Frieda predeceased him in 2000. He is mourned by son Carl and Bev, grandchildren, Lucas and Alessandra, Allison; son Fred and Linda, grandchildren, Jennifer, Mark, Meaghan; daughter Diane and Keith, grandchildren, Steven, Meredith, Victoria. Carl, Fred, and Diane are grateful for the care our father received at Calvary Place may the Lord bless each of you. Viewing will be January 15 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street from 7:00 8:00 p.m. The memorial service will be January 16 at Portage Avenue Church at 10:30 a.m. with interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
